2023 Prunotto Barbera Costamiòle
The Wine
First produced in 1905 from the best grapes of the vineyards in the heart of the Barolo appellation. The wines shows extraordinary typicity of Nebbiolo.
CLIMATE
The 2023 growing season was characterized by generally warm, dry weather that lasted until mid-May, when abundant rainfall began, especially concentrated in the Langhe area around Alba. Starting in July, temperatures returned to seasonal averages and were accompanied by several storm events; these climatic conditions led to a reduction in yields but did not affect the future quality or ripening of the grapes. The grape harvest began on September 7th and was completed on the 22nd of the same month.
Vineyards
A traditional Barolo, one of Prunotto’s historic labels, whose first vintage was produced in 1905 from the best grapes of the vineyards in the heart of the Barolo appellation. Aging takes place in large oak barrels of various sizes, further enhancing the extraordinary typicity of Nebbiolo in this region.
Winemaking
Freshly harvested grapes were brought to the cellar, destemmed and crushed. Maceration on the skins was carefully monitored to guarantee optimal extraction; two pump-overs were performed daily at a temperature that did not exceed 30 °C (86 °F). The wine was aged for a period of approximately 12 months in new French oak barriques. Costamiòle was aged for an additional period in the bottle before being released.
HISTORY
The Prunotto estate is located in Alba, the most important city in the Langhe area halfway between Barbaresco and Barolo on the right side of the Tanaro river, on gentle plains surrounded by vineyards in the Langhe and Roero territories. The natural beauty of the gently rolling hills alternate with small sloping valleys covered by rows of meticulously cultivated vineyards. The Antinori family, charmed by such rich natural beauty, unique vineyards and soils, decided to invest time and energy in this terroir to make Prunotto one of the most important winemaking estates in the Piedmont region.
Tasting Notes

The palate is enveloping, rich, with soft yet well-structured tannins, characterized by excellent structure and a persistent finish.
