A 100% Cabernet Franc made from organic grapes at the Haras de Pirque estate in Maipo Valley, Chile.

Climate

The 2022 growing season in Pirque was one of the best in recent years. Winter and spring were cool with lower rainfall than previous years, resulting in loosely packed clusters. Budbreak occurred right on schedule at the end of spring, with flowering taking place mid-December under cool conditions throughout. Veraison began mid-January at lower-than-average temperatures, and March brought cool weather with optimal day-to-night swings, allowing the grapes to gradually ripen while preserving fresh, dark berry aromas. The grapes were harvested between the third and last week of April, achieving peak ripeness and good balance.

Vineyards

Galantas is harvested from Haras de Pirque’s organic vineyards in the Maipo Andes Valley, at over 700 meters above sea level (2,296 feet). At this elevation, Cabernet Franc benefits from the cool nighttime temperatures of the Andes foothills, allowing the variety to reach its full potential.

Winemaking

The three distinct vineyard parcels of Cabernet Franc were fermented separately, both in stainless steel vats and French oak. Cold maceration took place over 3–5 days to enhance the variety’s aromatic compounds. Once alcoholic fermentation was complete, the wine was transferred into barriques, where it continued to age for 14 months.

History

Galantas represents the finest expression of Cabernet Franc from the Maipo Andes Valley, revealing the variety’s characteristic vibrant elegance and varietal finesse in this unique, high-elevation terroir.

Tasting Notes

Red tending toward purple in color. The nose is spicy and fresh, with notes of tobacco and roasted coffee merging with hints of dark berries. The palate is elegant, with excellent structure defined by pleasant tannins, accented by aromas of dark fruit, cassis, graphite, and spicy, fresh notes. It’s a classic wine from the Maipo Andes Valley.
